Patrick. A.A. Garner
I have held my full car driving licence since 1983, have been
a qualified ADI since 1995 and have been a qualified Large Goods
Vehicle (LGV) driver since 1993. I am currently graded 6 by the Driving Standards Agency which is the highest grade available to Approved Driving Instructors.
My experience is extensive. Prior to becoming an Approved Driving
Instructor (ADI), I worked in the Metropolitan Police Force as
a Police Officer where I had experience of high speed driving.
I then went on to a career in the London Fire Brigade, experiencing
life as a fire appliance driver, progressing to the London Fire
Brigades Driver Training School. In this driving department I
teach fire fighters to drive fire engines. I am also a qualified
skid-training instructor, 'one of only a few' in the world, simulating
various different skids on fire appliances and skid car.
I regularly teach Emergency Fire Appliance Driving (EFAD) as
based on police road craft. This entails speed exemptions, legally
allowing me to exceed the speed limit and contravene red traffic
I am an Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) instructor and examiner,
training fire fighters to operate the London Fire Brigades biggest
fire fighting appliance and in addition to this I am a delegated
Driving Standards Agency (DSA) Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) examiner
and regularly conduct driving tests for candidates for rigid
lorries, Category C.
I am ORDIT (The Official Register of Driving Instructor Training)
qualified as recognised by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA)
which allows me to train people to become Approved Driving Instructors
(ADI). I have now done this for a number of years and am considered
a trainer of trainers.
I am a member of the Institute of Advanced Motorist (IAM) for
both cars and commercial lorries.
I am a registered Pass Plus instructor as are all of the instructors
of the >> In~Control << Driving School. This allows
newly qualified drivers to take a course of positive driving
enabling them to gain further experience on the road as well
as insurance company discounts.
